HUDSON FUND for RESILIENT STUDENTS
Education is a transformative journey, and at Mounds Park Academy we believe that every student, regardless of their background or challenges, deserves the opportunity to thrive. As we reflect on our mission and values, we recognize the incredible resilience of our students who, despite facing significant obstacles, demonstrate remarkable perseverance and dedication to their education. In honor of Dr. Hudson’s distinguished service to MPA, the board of trustees has created the Hudson Fund for Resilient Students.
A STORY OF RESILIENCE
Dr. Hudson’s personal and professional journey has been marked by adversity and resilience. Growing up as a gay Catholic, he endured relentless harassment, bullying, and abuse. This discrimination didn’t cease as he entered his professional life. After a very public outing, Dr. Hudson, and his family, found solace and acceptance at MPA, where the love, respect, and dignity they received transformed his personal and professional life.
At MPA, Dr. Hudson has been a fervent advocate for students grappling with personal, mental, social, or socio-economic hardships. His dedication to empowering these students has enabled them to excel academically and actively participate in school life. Inspired by his unwavering commitment, the Hudson Fund for Resilient Students aims to provide essential financial support and resources, ensuring that these resilient students can continue their education and realize their dreams.
VISION
The Hudson Fund For Resilient Students aims to provide financial assistance, resources, and support to students who have shown exceptional resilience in overcoming personal, academic, and socio-economic challenges. This fund will ensure that these students have the opportunity to continue their education, achieve their goals, and contribute positively to their communities.
PURPOSE
Financial Assistance: Provide scholarships to cover tuition, books, and other educational expenses for students who demonstrate financial need and resilience. As well as assist with emergency funds for students facing unforeseen circumstances that could jeopardize their education.
Support Services: Offer counseling and mental health services to help students in crisis cope with stress and trauma. Additionally provide academic tutoring and mentoring to support students’ academic success.
Enrichment Opportunities: Fund participation in extracurricular activities, leadership programs, and educational trips that enrich students’ learning experiences and personal development.

The Hudson Fund for Resilient Students will have a lasting impact on our school community by:

Promoting Equity: Ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent talented and determined students from accessing quality education.
Building Community: Fostering a culture of support, inclusion, and resilience within our school.
Creating Leaders: Preparing resilient students to become leaders and role models who will inspire others and contribute positively to society.
