This one week class offered to rising 9th grade students will focus on writing skills review and development. This class will be a review and introduction to literary analysis, and provide a basis of what students should expect in 9th grade at MPA. Class discussion and practice will focus on mediums not covered in the "regular" 9th grade classroom, like using cartoons, songs, and fables to introduce the same critical analysis done during the school year.

Entering Grades: 9 – 12

This course will focus on teaching real, applicable conversation skills that can help perticipants communicate clearly and effectively with others in Spanish. Students should come ready to "debate" current events, political heppenings, and various global topics. This course is available to students in Spanish IV and above.

Entering Grades: 9 – 12

This class will be a hands-on exploration of environmental science and engineering. We will explore a range of environmental engineering topics related to water and air quality, environmental chemistry, energy technology, land management, and global environmental change. The class expands on topics covered throughout the MPA science curriculum and is appropriate for grades 9-12, regardless of previous course experiences. The course will be conducted primarily outside on the MPA Prairie, Scientific Ponds, and surrounding areas. Some background reading and writing will be required but the majority of the class will focus on in-class activitities such as: specimen collecting, surveying, designing, building, data collection and analysis, and discussion.

This class will focus on readying rising 9th grade students for the courses and work that exist in MPA upper school. The class will research brain development, and explore executive function strengths and challenges. We will also introduce tools, strategies, and skills that will be extremely helpful to students' transition to upper school.

Entering Grades: 6 – 9

Come celebrate, learn, and enjoy the magic of creating great music together. Jamming together, playing by ear, and ultimately performing a recorded concert at the end of the week. Class will be taught by both notation and ear. Focus will be on developing good technique to better assist in playing more difficult music. Music styles will include Old Time Fiddle, Irish, Bluegrass, and Americana. Music is flexible for beginners to advanced players.

French Cooking

Entering Grades: 9 – 12

This course will take the mystery out of French cooking by providing students with the opportunity to learn about the history of classic French dishes and cuisine. Students will research various foods and build a menu to cook French delicacies in our very own Peacock Teaching Kitchen. Students will see how easy it is to prepare and enjoy French food.

Bring your imagination and voice to life through graphic design! Graphic design is a modern way to communicate and creatively express yourself, especially while living in a virtual world. Learn the fundamentals of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop to create unique visuals, graphics, artwork, prints, and gifs!

This comprehensive course will provide students with an overview of sports management through exploration of industry history, prior and future trends, and impact on recreation, college, and professional sports. No prior knowledge of athletics or specific sport is required, yet general understanding is recommended. A new MPA class offering.

Mathematical Modeling
June 21 – July 1

Entering Grades: 9 – 12

This course is an introduction to mathematical modeling based on the use of elementary functions to describe and explore real-world phenomena and data. Linear, exponential, logarithmic, and polynomial function models are examined and applied to real-world data.

Mounds Park Academy Basketball is excited to offer their annual Summer Panther Basketball Camp held June 14-17 from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM in the Lansing Sport Center. With more than 40 campers attending last year, they are expecting another tremendous camp. Emphasis on shooting, ball handling, and fundamentals for all skill levels. All campers receive a camp t-shirt.

The Mounds Park Academy Girls' Volleyball program is excited to host their youth volleyball camp this summer. Varsity Coach Kunze-Hoeg will lead this camp with assistant coaches and current and former players. Camp will emphasize volleyball fundamentals!

The MPA Garden
June 28 – July 2

Entering Grades: 9 – 12

This hands-on course will provide a history of and reason for the MPA garden through the study of: native and invasive plants, turtles and bluebirds, trail contstruction, trail camera positioning, and nest box construction. Participating students will also work with thw Ramsey-Washington Watershed District to help maintain and plant native plants at a nearby lake.

The World: A Brief Introduction

This course is centered around the book, The World: A Brief Introduction, by Riacjard Haas. The class will allow students to navigate a time in which many of our biggest challenges come from the world beyond our borders. Through classroom discussion and readings, students will be able to make sense of the complicated world in which live by "managing" the flood of daily news. Our goal is for students to become more informed citizens.
